Critique a Hostile Policy

Rewrite a gym cancellation policy that is causing PR backlash.

The Scenario

A South African gym chain requires customers to come in person, fill out a paper form, and give 3 months' notice to cancel a month-to-month contract. Twitter/X is furious. Management has finally agreed to change it, but needs you to rewrite the terms.

The Brief

Analyse the provided "hostile" policy snippet, list why it is bad for the brand (and potentially violates the CPA - Consumer Protection Act), and write the modern, updated version.

Deliverables

  • The "Hostile Policy" (invent a short, aggressive cancellation clause)
  • A critique listing 3 reasons the policy is toxic/illegal
  • The rewritten "Fair Cancellation Policy" that allows online cancellation but still protects the gym from sudden revenue drops (e.g., 1 full calendar month notice)

Submission Guidance

The Consumer Protection Act in SA requires reasonable cancellation terms. Your new policy must balance the business need for predictable revenue with the customer's right to leave easily.
