Diagnose a Metric Drop

Revenue dropped 15% month-over-month. Write a structured root-cause analysis.

The Scenario

An online subscription box company saw revenue drop from R3.2M in March to R2.72M in April. The CEO is panicking. Your job is to calmly and systematically figure out why.

The Brief

Write a structured root-cause analysis. Decompose revenue into its component parts, identify which lever moved, propose hypotheses, and describe what data you would pull to confirm each one.

Deliverables

  • A revenue decomposition tree: Revenue = Subscribers × ARPU, broken down further
  • At least 4 hypotheses for the drop, ordered by likelihood
  • For each hypothesis: the data you would pull and the query or analysis that would confirm or reject it
  • A one-paragraph summary you would present to the CEO before the deep-dive is complete

Submission Guidance

Do not jump to a conclusion. The value of this task is the systematic decomposition, not the answer.
