Build a Sales Summary with Pivot Tables

Create pivot tables and basic formulas from raw transaction data.

The Scenario

A small clothing retailer has 6 months of transaction data in a single spreadsheet tab. The store manager wants a summary showing total revenue by product category, average order value by month, and the top 10 best-selling items.

The Brief

Describe (step by step) how you would build three pivot tables and one summary formula section from this raw data. You do not need the actual spreadsheet — describe the row/column/value configuration for each pivot table.

Deliverables

  • Pivot Table 1 config: Total revenue by product category (rows, values, any filters)
  • Pivot Table 2 config: Average order value by month
  • Pivot Table 3 config: Top 10 items by quantity sold
  • Three SUMIFS or AVERAGEIFS formulas you would place in a summary section, with the formula written out

Submission Guidance

Write the pivot table configurations as if teaching a colleague. Include the exact field names you would drag into Rows, Columns, and Values.
