Personal Cash Flow Budget

Build a 3-month personal cash flow for a graduate earning R18,000/month.

The Scenario

A recent graduate just started their first job at R18,000/month (before tax). They have R45,000 in student debt, rent of R4,500, and no savings. They want to know: "Will I make it through the first 3 months?"

The Brief

Build a 3-month personal cash flow showing inflows (net salary after PAYE), outflows (rent, transport, food, debt repayment, etc.), and the closing balance each month.

Deliverables

  • A 3-month cash flow table: Opening Balance, Net Salary, each expense category, Closing Balance
  • A rough PAYE calculation showing how you arrived at the net salary figure
  • One specific recommendation for the graduate to build a R5,000 emergency fund within 6 months

Submission Guidance

Use realistic South African costs. Transport in Gauteng is not the same as Cape Town. Show that you have thought about real expenses, not textbook categories.
