Search, Filter, and Paginate API Data

Add complex user interactions to a data-heavy dashboard.

The Scenario

An internal tool for an e-commerce company displays thousands of customer orders. The basic list works, but customer support agents are complaining that they cannot find specific orders easily. You need to implement search, status filtering, and pagination without crashing the browser.

The Brief

Extend a basic data fetching component. Add a text input for searching by ID, a dropdown to filter by status (Pending, Shipped, Delivered), and basic next/previous pagination buttons. You must debounce the search input to prevent spamming the API.

Deliverables

  • The React component code managing the search, filter, and pagination state
  • The debounced search implementation
  • An explanation of how URL search parameters could be used to make the filters shareable

Submission Guidance

Assume the API supports query parameters like `?search=xyz&status=shipped&page=2`. Show how you construct this URL dynamically based on state.

Submit Your Work

Your submission is graded against the rubric on the right. If you pass, you get a public Badge URL you can share on LinkedIn. There is no draft save, so work offline first and paste your finished response here.
