The Scenario
A law firm with 80 staff stores documents across shared drives, email attachments, and physical filing cabinets. They need a document management system. Three options: (A) build custom, (B) buy an off-the-shelf solution, (C) hybrid — buy a platform and customise.
The Brief
Evaluate all 3 options using weighted scoring. Define evaluation criteria, assign weights, score each option, and make a recommendation.
Deliverables
- Evaluation criteria: at least 8 criteria (cost, time, fit, risk, etc.) with weights that sum to 100%
- A scoring matrix: Option × Criterion with scores (1-5) and weighted totals
- A recommendation with sensitivity analysis: does the recommendation change if you shift weights?
Submission Guidance
Weighted scoring is only as good as the weights. If "cost" is 50% of the score, the cheapest option always wins. Show you have thought about weight balance.
