The Scenario
A South African company is migrating from a legacy payroll system to a cloud-based solution. There are 25 business requirements. The project sponsor wants confidence that every requirement will be tested and nothing will be lost in migration.
The Brief
Build a Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) that links business requirements to functional requirements to test cases. Include coverage analysis and gap identification.
Deliverables
- An RTM table: Business Req ID → Functional Req ID(s) → Test Case ID(s) → Status (for at least 15 business requirements)
- A coverage analysis: which requirements have full traceability, partial, or none
- A gap report: requirements without test coverage and test cases without linked requirements

An RTM is only valuable if it is maintained. Include a note on how the matrix should be updated during the project lifecycle.
