The Scenario
A 2-year-old design system has 45 components. Over time, different designers added components with inconsistent patterns. Some components are missing states, others have accessibility issues, and 8 components are never used. Time for an audit.
The Brief
Conduct a comprehensive component library audit. Evaluate consistency, completeness, accessibility, and usage. Produce a remediation plan.
Deliverables
- An audit framework: the criteria you evaluate each component against (states, a11y, naming, responsiveness)
- Audit findings for at least 6 components (invent them) — each with specific issues and severity
- A deprecation recommendation: which components to remove, merge, or replace
- A prioritised remediation plan with effort estimates (S/M/L) for the top 10 fixes
Submission Guidance
A component that exists but nobody uses is worse than no component — it creates maintenance overhead and confusion. Be willing to recommend deletion.
