Navigation Redesign

Redesign the navigation of a complex government website to improve task completion.

The Scenario

The South African government services portal has hundreds of pages covering everything from ID applications to tax filing. Users frequently give up and phone the call centre because they cannot find the right page online.

The Brief

Redesign the navigation architecture. Focus on the top 10 user tasks (invent them), and design a navigation that gets users to the right page in 3 clicks or fewer.

Deliverables

  • A list of the top 10 user tasks ranked by frequency (invented but plausible)
  • The current navigation structure (invented) with click-paths for each top task
  • The redesigned navigation with click-paths showing improvement for each task
  • One mega-menu or search-driven pattern you would use for edge-case content

Submission Guidance

Government websites serve diverse audiences (citizens, businesses, immigrants). Do not optimise for one audience at the expense of others.
